The group members i will be creating my own thriller film with will be Daniel Armstrong and Reggie Witham. The purpose of the preliminary task was to introduce me and my group to filming and what would be expected of us when we begin to create our thriller opening when we arrive back from half term.
The preliminary task involved all of our group getting involved to create a short clip of any genre then edit it to our specifications using a computer. The preliminary task gave us the unique opportunity to apply what we have learnt when creating our bloggs to a practical. We where able to incorporate our own editing techniques and camera shots that we have learnt to our clip, for example as you can see in our preliminary task bellow at point 0.13 to point 0.20 we where using the editing technique of a shot reverse shot which we would of not used if we where not educated about it prior to the preliminary task.
Throughout the task our group encountered some problems as to what editing styles and camera shots we would use to convey the necessary themes of mystery our clip was hopping to achieve. With everyone initially acting as the director we regularly got into argument as to what shot would be a appropriate choice. To overcome this problem our group decided it would be best to vote for who to elect the primary director to which Daniel Armstrong was elected. However this led to allot of time being wasted and ultimately our preliminary task was not as good as it could of been as a result.
The completion of our preliminary task will assist in the preparation and creation of my groups thriller film as we are now aware of the problems we will encounter during production (Time, who has the final word and how to recreate the editing styles we have learnt about in lesson). Our group will now be able to improve as the experience we now have from completing our preliminary task helped us learn new skills and made us aware of what to expect when filming.
